Bite-Sized Tao Te Ching
Bite-Sized Tao Te Ching - How Things Happen
The world’s wisdom traditions point to one truth, but each highlights distinctive features. Taoism’s rural wholesomeness is a great counter to an intellectual nature. So brilliantly laid out in Lao Tzu’s eighty-one poetic chapters, it pictures reality as an organic whole evolving in accordance with a single principle, Tao. This simple root yields abundant fruit.
It is a matter of realizing that oneself and nature are one and the same process, which is the Tao. – Alan Watts
The ‘Tao Bites’ are my distillations of each verse of the Tao Te Ching. This cornerstone of Taoist thinking has been translated countless times. I draw from The Tao of Leadership, an interpretation of the Tao Te Ching in the context of leadership guidance, by John Heider. After each ‘Bite’, I offer a further nibble that reflects my own ‘take’ on it.
The Tao Te Ching is already a concise work. My synthesis of each verse (or chapter) into an aphorism of roughly tweet length represents what most stands out to me. I hope you find it helpful.
